Race Report by Mel Deakin
This was a new race in 2024 and a recent addition to NSRRA for 2025 after losing Congleton Half. The start and finish are at Denstone College, good facilities, ample parking, beautiful surroundings, £20 to enter.
It is an out and back course, the first kilometer is steep downhill on the road, then levels out onto the old railway line, up almost as far as Oakamoor then back the same way to the college and up the steep hill to finish. It was hot and dry on the day and I opted for road race shoes but trails may have been better. The old railway line is an established and well used walkway and cycle way, ample wide enough but it is gravelly for long stretches. It is as flat as the Isabel trail.
Good performances from the fab four Harriers, Julie N, Sarah A and Sarah G and I. A race worthy of inclusion in the Harriers Challenge and one I will consider doing again. If it could start an hour earlier to avoid some of the August midday sun that would be great. If they could take out the hill at the end … oops only joking.

pennine trail marathon

The Inov-8 Pennine Trail Marathon is a challenging 43.6km (approx. 27 miles) trail race with over 1,000 meters of climbing, starting near Burnley in Lancashire. The scenic route winds through woods and traverses iconic locations such as Gorple Rocks, Top Withins, Bronte Waterfalls, and Hardcastle Crags National Trust park. The event is known for its varied terrain, including woodlands and challenging uphill sections, delivering fast-paced descents and stunning natural landscapes. Liz Austin represented the club at this event, and she ran brilliantly, finishing the race in an excellent time of 06:52:25. Fantastic running Liz, great achievement!

Part of the Harriers Challenge
Race Report Anne Tilley
Rudyard race was great, Tayne and I really enjoyed it. 4.3 mile route around the lake, flat along one side and then some elevation around the other side. Beautiful evening and there was a bagpiper up on the hillside, very atmospheric! About 250 runners there. Most runners do the full series of 6 races, Rudyard was the last race of the series. Well organised, good facilities, scenic location
and a great atmosphere. Would recommend!
